BRODEQUIN PERPETUATION OF SUFFERING

It has been 17 years since we've had something new spawn from the torturous dungeons of Brodequin. That has gotten to do with some horrible issues regarding Jon Engman's back and hip. Due to that being one of the issues that plagued Brodequin, music was put on hold. Back in 2015, we had something of an announcement from Brodequin that Jon was going to do some drum programming for the new Brodequin material. Shortly after that, we've received the news that Jan Lugtenburg was going to be the new drummer for Brodequin. They did some shows scattered throughout the world and in 2020, Jan got replaced by the current drummer Brennan Shackelford. With him on board, the torture machine Brodequin has given us new material since 2004. Let's dive in.

To be clear, Brodequin has always been one of the legendary brutal death metal bands and probably will always be one of them. A cult status to say the least. Brodequin did make some significant changes to the sound compared to the last release 'Methods Of Execution'. The sound of 'Perpetuation Of Suffering' sounds a lot more polished and clearer. It is weird to say such a thing about a brutal death metal EP but it is the only way I can make myself clear with that description. What really stands out during the 5+- minutes of brutality, are the vocals for sure. Jamie's vocals don't get lost in the final mix like what happened with 'Methods Of Execution'.

Of course we've to talk about the insane riffs that get thrown at you for the next 5+- minutes. It does have a ton of moments where you can experience the hyper speed drumming you know and love from Brodequin but now there are a lot of moments during the EP where there is more groove mixed into the complete sound of 'Perpetuation Of Suffering'. I tend to say that there are a few moments during the first track 'VII Nails' that do remind me a bit of a faster version of Nile. Especially the drumming. Brennan does his job flawlessly.

There is a lot to look forward to just by looking at 'Perpetuation Of Suffering'. Hopefully in the near future, Brodequin will torture our ears with new material in anyway shape or form. It's such an amazing brutal EP that does want you to get back into Brodequin and makes you longing for new material by these brutal humans.
