13 Thrones - Flesh Of The King
13 Thrones is a Californian death metal band hailing from the Bay Area. When I was trying to look up information about 13 Thrones, I couldn't find a lot about them other than they have released a single in 2022 and 'Flesh Of The King' in 2022.
With that in my mind I turned myself towards the artwork that 13 Thrones has presented. Needless to say it is one of the most amazing artworks of 2022 that I have seen. I guess the deteriorating guy has something to do with Pyramid Head from Silent Hill. Seems like 'Flesh Of The King' could be an homage to the scary horror games/movies from Silent Hill.
13 Thrones doesn't quite hold back on letting people know that they are quite skillful in the art of musicianship. After a horrifying bad news reporter intro, 13 Thrones presents their way of head on death metal. A sick groovy opening riff accompanied with fast double bass. Exactly what I like when I am listening to death metal. Given that they are willing to include a groovy breakdown in the first song is showing balls to anyone that is doubting their commitment to their love and passion for making death metal their own.
My favorite track of 'Flesh Of The King' is 'Curator Of Madness'. It shows the full potential of controlled musical chaos that 13 Thrones is able to play. 'Curator Of Madness' has a lot of surprises up its sleeve which is intriguing since the other songs don't have a lot of the same surprises and song structures as 'Curator Of Madness'. The drummer even hits Archspire lightning fast levels which is really impressive. Combine that with weird techy guitar work and you will have the most impressive song of 'Flesh Of The King'.
The overall sound of 13 Thrones has really surprised me. They don't sound run of the mill groovy death metal at all and do have a few welcome surprises up their sleeve during 'Flesh Of The King'. I could not make out if the lyrics have Silent Hill references however the vocalist is a beast. Combine that with the impressive musicianship from his fellow band members and you will have a band that you will need to keep track of. 13 Thrones is certainly a band that I will keep in the back of my head and I will certainly follow them with anticipation.
